From dan at arangoth.org Sun Nov 1 17:29:38 2009 From: dan at arangoth.org (Dan) Date: Sun, 01 Nov 2009 18:29:38 -0500 Subject: [Royal Guard] Unto Captain Lucius Von Stahl In-Reply-To: <64278.38259.qm@web58805.mail.re1.yahoo.com> References: <64278.38259.qm@web58805.mail.re1.yahoo.com> Message-ID: <4AEE19E2.6060105@arangoth.org> Unto Idelle Sarault, Arms-Lieutenant: I apologize for the delay in my reply, but it has taken me considerable time and effort to sort out the truth of the matter raised in your letter of the 28th. Despite your efforts to conceal the identity of your informant, your faithful recording of his complaint has nevertheless revealed the source of this complaint. The use of 'Ser' is a Laspasian affectation, and the number of Laspasian expatriates in the city is a very small group. This fact, along with the name which you were able to discover in the archives of our membership rolls, has thrown illumination on the puzzling situation outlined in your report. The individual whom Vorfon Tivaurd is registering a complaint about is indeed one Dorn ul-Shander Varros, who is no longer a member of the Royal Guard, but is now serving as an officer in the army. His unit was in the city the night of the attack upon the city by the army of animate trees, and assisted in the city's defense. Unless there has been any further contact between the two individuals since the night of the attack, these are the events that transpired as I have been able to assemble them from conversations with members of the Guard and staff at the King's Inn who were present on the night in question: Vorfon Tivaurd arrived shortly after the attack had been repulsed, while the Royal Guard and soldiers from the army were busy gathering the wounded and otherwise re-establishing order. Captain Varros took offense to the necromancer's presence and insinuated his involvement in the attack. He ordered his men to detain Tivaurd, and charged him to give them a reason not to summarily execute him. Vorfon Tivaurd enumerated several reasons in his defense, and furthermore implied the futility of attempting violence against him. Captain Varros broke off the confrontation with Vorfon Tivaurd at this point, and responded to a call for aid from a squad of Royal Guards who were attempting to quell a riot that broke out in the Wharf in the aftermath of the attack. While Varros was certainly belligerent toward Vorfon Tivaurd, I don't think that there is a single person in Drache who is not aware of Vorfon Tivaurd's undead state. Under the laws of the kingdom, Captain Varros' actions were perfectly legal, even if Vorfon Tivaurd found it distasteful to be treated in such a fashion. I have not been able to find any witnesses to corroborate the claim that Captain Varros was carrying any sort of fraudulent Royal Guard credentials or claimed at any time to be part of the Guard. If Vorfon Tivaurd has any evidence that he did not present during your first conversation, he would do well to provide it. For the sake of thoroughness, I will note that members of the Royal Army do not have the right to make arrests or otherwise perform the functions of the Royal Guard except in cases in which martial law has been declared. Captain Varros and his men rendered their aid to the Royal Guard in repelling the attack, and in restoring order afterwards. By all evidence that I can discover, Captain Varros' actions were appropriate, even if his interpersonal skills are lacking. Me enxenim, Lucius von Stahl Captain of the Royal Guard. 1. XI. 479.
