[Royal Guard] Report: Screaming Child

REPORT:

Armsman Audriala and I were patrolling the Blkdragon district when we came upon a one-legged man who informed us that there was a rowdy couple (Marella and Rubin) with a child (Justice) in the inn who were making trouble. He further informed us that the mother had plans to sell her young daughter, of six years, into sexual slavery.

We arrived upon the scene to witness an attack from a patron, Eoa Dragonkin, upon Marella in the form of a slap. We then heard conflicting stories from patrons (Ikara, Eoa, and the one-legged man who vanished from the scene) and the mother on what had occured. The patrons insisted Marella was (and may have already) sold her child into some form of sexual slavery; Marella attested that a patron was trying to steal her child for a church cult.

Considering the best interests of the child, we decided to take the child Justice to the guardhouse until we could assert whether or not the child was in danger from a church cult, or from being sold into slavery. We invited all parties involved to make statements within the guardhouse regarding this issue, to avoid drama and public spectacle.

We here submit the testimonies of Marella, Ikara and Eoa.

Marella (mother of child)

"Well I came in the Inn as usual..I got a bad behaved child..so i come to eat..and drink.. My daughter sits ont he floor because she isnt tall to sit..I sit down start to have fun and then the cripple comes over and asks about church and a progrem for kids. My lover tells him we dont need no church and that the girl isnt behaved enough for that. So this wench gets her nose in it then and she keeps asking me questions. A boy comes near asks to play with my daought for his dad wants to pay people to play with him. He looks like a brat too..so i say- okay. She goes to play i drink more..then you show up. I get slapped..end of story."

Ikara Verenest

When her turn comes up, the cleric describes the threatened beatings, givinbg the girl a dirty, muddied used glass (from who-knows-which patron), abandoning her, the whippings and threats, and all of the "She works on her back" or "little tart!" sayings. Including the "She gives us money on her back" part, and charging people money to "play" with her.

After these statements were given, I spoke to all three witnesses. From this I determined that there was no evidence for any of their wild claims, and that the event was the product of hysteria - the church cult was identified as the Royal Church's charity programs and the child slavery accusations were made on the basis of a throw away comment by Justice's drunk mother. The child was returned to her mother, who was cautioned about such comments in public, as they could easily be misinterpreted as a declaration of slavery connections. Eoa Dragonkin was warned about slapping Marella.

In short, our time was wasted, but a fight averted. The rest of our patrol was uneventful.
