[Royal Guard] Report of the MIGHTY BATTLE

"Pallodain's Platinum balls, I hate writing reports," Ryal said
as he finally settled down at the desk of Magistrate Lachlan Brewer. He
needed a quiet place to think about how just to word this disorienting
report of the mighty battle. Wasn't that what Kaida had called it?

Smirking to himself, he shook his head and put pen to paper.

"On this eve of 18 Melxbralkat, 477, I was at the River Darian
on one of many visits there. It's a good place to think, what can I say? I
was on a break from my patrol and thought to cool down by the water.

It was then that the creature appeared. It was clearly some
sort of demon of immense height and heat. It felt as if I'd been thrust
into the Ironworks themselves with naught but my pride. It tolled my name
in a sort of bell-like way, hissing Stygian again and again.

I fled the creature with due haste, paying no mind to what was
going on behind me. In hindsight, I certainly wish I had.

After entering the city, the first thought of aid came to my mind in the
form of my uncle Ravynetti Tivaurd. I'd heard he was in the BlkDragon the
night prior so I headed there.

By that time I was exhausted. Too many near catches from the
beast for my comfort. Cut up, banged up, beat up I raced into the inn and
without humility I screamed my uncle's name as loudly as I could.

Hurrying this along I finally got my uncle down the stairs only to have the
beast follow me into the inn. It was only then that I noticed it decayed
everything in its path. It was after me and I'd just led it to one of the
most populated spots in the entire city! Idiot!

I left the inn pursued by not only the demon, but Arms Recruit
Roman Kotalik, Tespin Kaida, Vorfon Raimo and Ravynetti Tivaurd.

A long battle ensued. Thanks to Recruit Kotalik, we quickly found out that
physical attacks do nothing. Arcane magic also does much of nothing. Magic
missiles, ice .. nothing really seemed to work until Ravynetti did
something.

I don't really know what he did but it hurt it. I'm no wizard
by a long shot!

Moving on, I was given the task of distracting the demon while
Ravynetti began a complex spell. He asked for willing donors of a few drops
of blood. If anyone questions that, then they can answer to me. Arms
Recruit Kotalik, Raimo and Kaida offered their own blood for my sake and I
owe them my life for it.

That was when Ravynetti plunged a knife into his own chest and
died. In a sense. He decayed into a pile of nothing. Before that he
charged me with some personal family business which will be disclosed at a
later date. Sorry.

That's the gist of the report. The demon was banished or
imprisoned somewhere where only Ravynetti knows. There could be more of
them. A teacher of mine suggested there would be, since demons almost never
travel alone. I believe him.

Since the demon said my surname, I can only guess that it was sent after
those with that distinction. I can only guess what Lakyle has done to piss
off the cultists this time.

Keep all eyes out for one Arius Kaedin and Nezali Greer. Kaedin is the
ring-leader of this whole circus disaster and I bet my badge he has
everything to do with this latest development.

 Long-winded and tired,

Arms-Sergeant Ryal Stygian"

Ryal sighed and set the Everlasting Inkpen down, fingering it
with a contemplative expression. Resque had given the pen to his mother a
long time ago in exchange for a book that had changed so many lives.
Compensation
that he thought Quill got the better end of.
Flipping it up, he caught it and tucked it behind a pointed ear,
stuffing the report in its proper place (though not where Ryal would have
liked to stick it) and left the office.
