While I appreciate the sentiment behind this suggestion, the channel
operators don't feel that it's in the best interests of the channel. The
suggestion certainly makes sense ICly, but the ops have no interest in
implementing any measure like this, nor do we want to see a
proliferation of devices like this in the channel setting. The IC laws
against demons and the undead are just that--IC laws. They aren't a
prohibition against muns creating demonic or undead character, they're
intended to discourage Lord_of_Dorkness-style stupidity and encourage
the muns to be subtle and clever in how they play their characters.

As I wrote in the Guard primer that I send out to every new characters,
the IC laws aren't an excuse to start witch hunts or harass players, and
equipping the guard with demon-detecting items encourages both of those
behaviors. If demonic characters are being obvious about their nature
and causing trouble in the inn, by all means, give them hell. The demon
detectors essentially remove any incentive to be subtle, since the Guard
will still discover the demon and attack anyway. I can't stand
poorly-played demons, but BDI strives to be as open and welcoming to as
many styles of RP as possible. And at times, that means live and let
live, rather than ganging up on players and running them out of the
channel. We may be worrying unnecessarily and making a mountain out of a
molehill, but the potential for abuse is our prime motivating factor in
turning this idea down.
